Spaying is performed on females; the ovaries and uterus are removed. This prevents the female from coming
into heat and from becoming pregnant.
Neutering is performed on males; the testicles are removed. This prevents the male from producing sperm
and impregnating a female.
Each year, approximately 27 million dogs and cats are born in the United States; 3.7 million are euthanized
each year as unwanted or abandoned. To solve the overpopulation and unwanted animal problem, the
number of puppies and kittens born must be reduced. Adults and children need to be educated and take
responsibility for controlling the breeding of dogs and cats.
