According to Felson and other opportunity theorists, what is the key to stopping crime? Give examples of how you have seen these theories in action.
What will be an ideal response?
The key to stopping crime is to prevent the intersection in time and space of offenders and of targets that lack guardianship. This is another way of saying that because the fundamental cause of crime events is opportunity, the chief way of preventing crime is to reduce such criminal opportunities. On a broad level, this means making targets less attractive and supplying targets with capable guardianship.
