Describe the term "polygenic traits."
What will be an ideal response?
Polygenic traits are governed by several sets of alleles. An individual has a copy of all allelic pairs that can be located on various chromosomes. Each dominant allele codes for a product, leading to a quantitative effect on the phenotype. Within a population, this results in a continuous variation of phenotypes. Environmental effects cause many intervening phenotypes.
