Answers will vary. Many parts of the brain are involved in language development; however, some of the key biological structures that may provide the basis for the functions of the language acquisition device are based in the left hemisphere of the cerebral cortex for nearly all right-handed people and for two out of three left-handed people (Hoff, 2014). In the left hemisphere, the two areas most involved in speech are Broca's area and Wernicke's area. Broca's area is located near the section of the motor cortex that controls the muscles of the tongue and throat and other areas of the face that are used in speech. Wernicke's area lies near the auditory cortex and is connected to Broca's area by nerves. A part of the brain called the angular gyrus lies between the visual cortex and Wernicke's area. The angular gyrus "translates" visual information, such as written words, into auditory information (sounds) and sends it on to Wernicke's area.
