Explain what it means to say that ideological reasoning constrains as well as empowers

What will be an ideal response

Our axiomatic core convictions have life-shaping consequences. Differing political orientations generate dramatically divergent visions of human society. Not surprisingly, people who are deeply convinced that their way is "the only right way" often seek to change or to destroy those institutions and people who threaten "the only right way." History offers many examples: the Christian Crusaders, the Taliban, the Nazis, the Stalinists, the Klan, racists, zealots, fanatical terrorists, true-believers, suicide bombers, and bigots of all stripes, shapes, and stenches who use ideological reasoning to motivate their followers and try to destroy those who disagree. The benefits and risks of ideological thinking revolve around the power of ideologies to structure our individual and collective way of seeing the world. Because strong convictions may be mistaken, we can easily find ourselves advocating and defending views that are ill-conceived and harmful. History shows the dangers of ideological reasoning through the wars, genocides, and human misery caused by ideologues and their followers. Ideologically driven extremists will not only fight for their beliefs, they will kill for them.
