Explain how to prepare a quality telephone interview

What will be an ideal response?

A telephone interview is best utilized for standardized or semistandardized interview structures when the interviewer has already met the subject face to face. To have a quality interview, the interviewer must establish legitimacy, convince the subject of the importance of the interview, and ensure that the information obtained is detailed enough to contribute to the study. To do so, the interviewer can mail a letter to the prospective subject on an official letterhead with supportive documentation to explain the nature of the research and to alert the subject that he/she will be receiving a phone call to set an appointment for the actual interview. Next, the interviewer should contact subjects over the phone to convince them to take part and answer questions for the subject. Finally, the researcher should set up an appointment for the interview to take place. The interviewer should break the ice with an introduction and place the initial call one week to ten days after sending the initial letter.
