What changes in western Europe had the longest lasting effect in the nineteenth century?

What will be an ideal response?

Industrialization had the most profound effects in transforming the European ways of life in the nineteenth century. It not only created a redefinition of people in relation to their access to the economic benefits of society, but it also transformed the infrastructure of Europe through growth in transportation, communication, and technology. In addition to participation in the market economy and the production of mass-produced goods at lower prices, industrialization made it possible to travel previously unimaginable distances in a short period of time, and even reconfigured the way people conceived of time. Rather than the traditional, agriculturally based economy that measured time by the seasons, time now began to be measured by the standard of productivity and hourly wages. Particularly profound were the applications of technology to the military, as would be demonstrated in the second half of the nineteenth century.
