The first dimension of parenting is known as responsiveness/support. This dimension refers to the idea that a consistent, stable emotion connection between parents and children helps children develop a solid foundation for developing social skills. The second dimension of parenting is demandingness/control. This dimension focuses on the parent providing structure for their children through supervision, monitoring, and limit setting. The third dimension is psychological control (or avoidance of). This dimension addresses the avoidance of controlling behaviors involving shame, guilt, love withdrawal, and all forms of manipulative discipline.
