Summarize the possible causes of ADHD
What will be an ideal response?
As with other disabilities, the causes of ADHD are associated with heredity, structural brain differences, and environmental factors. Twin studies suggest a strong genetic component, and children are at greater risk for ADHD if one or both parents have it or if a sibling has it. The frontal lobes, cerebellum, and basal ganglia of the brain have all shown structural differences in the brains of people with ADHD, appearing to result from reduced brain volume. As a group, students with ADHD have brain volumes 3 to 8 percent lower than their peers without ADHD. Environmental factors include postnatal factors (like prenatal exposure to cigarettes, lead, and alcohol), perinatal factors (complications with labor and delivery), and postnatal factors
