A number of differences can be identified between traditional interviewing techniques and the cognitive approach. For example, traditional interviewers attempt to bring out information by asking specific questions; they target a question for each content area that they need to address. As a rule, the cognitive interview technique is used for eliciting information from victims and witnesses, as opposed to obtaining confe?ssions from suspects.
