According to your book, why it is important to study human communication? Considering these reasons and others you can think of, what are your personal goals in taking this class and what are the three communication skills you want to work on over

the course of the semester?

What will be an ideal response?

Communication, contrary to common belief, is a complex process. Miscommunication is a common event where misunderstandings and conflict are a fact of every day life. In reading this chapter, the authors point out that communication involves more than a sender, receiver, and a message; instead there are many components and considerations that need to be taken into account (i.e. individual forces, societal forces, and culture).
Learning about communication can help individuals improve relationships, accomplish goals, and shape one's identity. In particular, my identity is shaped by how I use communication to change others perceptions of me as well as how their perceptions of me influence my identity.
