Based on Berthold's methods, how do researchers today determine a tissue to be endocrine in nature? What will be an ideal response?

Concepts to Consider: They first remove the tissue and replace it by transplanting similar tissue from
another animal. The changes caused by removing the tissue should be reversed when it is replaced.
Also, the suspected compound from the endocrine tissue of one animal is injected into another animal
that had that tissue previously removed. Replacement of the suspected hormone should relieve
deficiency symptoms. The chemical structure of the compound is then determined, synthesized in a
laboratory, and injected into experimental animals. If the effects are what were predicted, scientists
have enough data to support their hypotheses.
