Couple violence is a complex issue. Provide some insight into this topic by discussing some causes of aggressive behaviors and by the role that culture plays in violence in relationships
What will be an ideal response?
Anger and hostility in the perpetrator are associated with various forms of physical abuse. Both men and women who are aggressive in their relationships tend to hold traditional gendered beliefs, lack communication skills, and lack anger management skills. The number of suspected causes of aggressive behavior increases as the level of aggression increases. The causes of aggressive behavior become more complex as the level of aggression worsens. Being female, Latina, African American, having an atypical family structure, having more romantic partners, partaking in early onset of sexual activity, and being a victim of child abuse predicts victimization. Violence against women worldwide reflects cultural traditions, beliefs, and values of patriarchal society. Cultures that emphasize honor, that portray females as passive, and that emphasize loyalty and sacrifice for the family may contribute to the tolerance of abuse. Rates of abuse are higher in cultures that emphasize female purity, male status, and family honor.
