Compare and contrast physical dependence and psychological dependence on drugs.

What will be an ideal response?

Physical dependence on a drug refers to changes to the body that have occurred after repeated use of the drug and necessitate its continued administration to avoid withdrawal symptoms. Physical dependence is not synonymous with addiction, as is commonly thought, but psychological dependence (the deep craving for the drug and the feeling that one cannot function without it) is synonymous with addiction.
