Why should one record a patent assignment with the USPTO?
What will be an ideal response?
Recording is recommended because if the assignment is not recorded with the USPTO within three months from its date, it is void against a subsequent purchaser for a valuable consideration who acquired the patent without notice (unless the assignment is recorded prior to the subsequent purchase). Moreover, recording establishes the ownership chain of title to the patent so that the new applicant can take action with regard to a pending application or, if the patent is issued, its owner can maintain the patent in force.
