What are the key steps involved in the Inductive model?
What will be an ideal response?
The five key steps in the Inductive model are 1) Lesson Instruction, 2) Divergent Phase, 3) Convergent Phase, 4) Closure, and 5) Application. In Lesson Introduction, the teacher introduces the main objectives and procedures involved in studying examples and nonexamples to look for patterns and differences. The Divergent Phase involves an open-ended examination and comparison of examples and nonexamples via open-ended questions with more than one ‘right' answer. The Convergent Phase focuses students on the content to be learned via convergent questions helping students to synthesize information into focused learning points. Closure provides students with opportunity to demonstrate understanding in different ways, and for the students to compare understandings to form a shared definition of the concept. Application involves demonstrating knowledge gained and applying it in novel ways or situations. (From Figure 8-2, Steps, Teacher and Student Roles in the Inductive Model).
