This autoimmune disease produces lower motor neuron dysarthria, which is often first suspected by the SLP. The client approaches the SLP with complaint of weak voice and inaccurate articulation, with the additional facts that he or she fatigues very easily and rapidly over the course of a day or less. History may include being placed on antidepressants, hospitalization for depression, being ignored as psychosomatic, and so on.
