Explain the rationale for the sample size in qualitative research.

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: Answer would ideally include: Qualitative research by design focus on limited phenomena in great depth. Additionally, qualitative studies are not designed for generalization to other settings. Because of these things, it is appropriate to have very small sample sizes. However, some qualitative studies may have up to 40 participants, which may also be appropriate for certain topics or settings. Essentially, the nature of the phenomena plays the largest role in the sample size that best fits each study.
