Explain the difference between the routine activity theory, broken window theory, and the rational choice theory
What will be an ideal response?
Several different theories have been advanced about crime prevention. The routine activity theory
is the theory that physical and social environments create crime opportunities by bringing
together in one place at a particular time a "likely" offender, a "suitable" target, and the absence
of a "capable guardian" against crime. The broken windows theory is the theory that physical signs that an area is unattended attracts offenders to the area. The rational choice perspective is theory that all crime is purposive behavior designed to benefit the offender.
