Brainstorming is a process of creative thinking that jumps from one word or concept to another to generate a lot of ideas. This activity is often called "free association." Advantages: All ideas are accepted, ideas act as springboards for other ideas, it can be fun and create cohesion, and a lot of new ideas are generated. Disadvantages: It can only be successful with a supportive and nonjudgmental group; one or two members can dominate the sessions, preventing the free flow of ideas; and it can leave members who are in a minority feeling uncomfortable to fully participate.
