What considerations must be made when utilizing and merging data from multiple information systems. Why are these considerations important in using the data for program evaluation?

What will be an ideal response?

The following considerations must be made when merging data sources: (1) make sure the data are compatible. For example, data on demographics may be organized around individual clients, and service contact may be organized around the service event. These differences are important to remedy to get accurate information about service delivery, for example reconstructing the data to reflect total service contacts of an individual client. (2) Determine whether there is compatibility across systems. One system may have and information system specific identifier, while another may use social security numbers. In order to get the data across systems to merge on the right individuals, common identification codes must be constructed. (3) Once the data file is completed, the data can then be analyzed with one of then many statistical packages that are well suited to a comprehensive analysis.
