What is motivation? Can a manager motivate you?

What will be an ideal response?

Motivation cannot be observed because it is an internal process that results in an individual putting forth effort to achieve goals. Because it is internal, managers can only use rewards and punishments to motivate individuals. These extrinsic rewards must mean something to you or they will not motivate you.
