What will be an ideal response?
Freud – Father of psychodynamic therapy. Believed in the unconscious mind and psychoanalysis as a mean to access the unconscious. Created talk therapy (or psychoanalysis), and developed the concepts of the unconscious mind, libido, transference, and defense mechanisms.
Jung – Also believed in the unconscious mind and psychoanalysis as a mean to access the unconscious. However, Freud and Jung had different views on the role of the unconscious, libido, and religion. Believed spirituality played an important role in one’s personality development, invented the concepts of extraversion, introversion, archetypes, and collective unconscious.
Adler – Was a contemporary of Freud and Jung and was one of the original five members who founded the Wednesday Psychological Society. Developed a new model of psychotherapy, individual psychology. He was opposed to negative views of human beings. Adler believed family constellation, internal logic, and social engagement influenced personality development. His theory shifted from a purely psychodynamic psychotherapy to more humanistic psychotherapy.
