They may serve as managers or directors of the HIM department, overseeing the daily operational functions of the department.
A health information technician focuses on completeness, accuracy, and proper entry of data, using computer applications to improve patient care and control health care costs. Health information technicians can also be found in settings across the continuum of care. They can be supervisors of a department or may serve as coders, perform release of information duties, conduct utilization review, or assist the billing process, among other duties.
