Why was the participation of Joan of Arc on the French side of the Hundred Years' War unusual?

What will be an ideal response?

Joan of Arc's participation was a surprise largely because she was an improbable figure to the world in which she participated. Specifically, as a young, peasant, female in a Catholic country, she claimed to have experienced a holy vision and thus, appealed to the French prince to give her troops and let her lead. She was a completely opposite figure to take part. She had never before left her village, traveled, dressed in men's clothing, or met royalty. With no military experience, she succeeded in leading troops into battle and winning, ultimately allowing the dauphin to be crowned as the King of France at Rheims. At that point, however, she was largely a liability precisely because of her unorthodox roots. When she was captured by the French of Burgundy, she was turned over to the English and tried for heresy and witchcraft. Given the chance to recant, she initially did, but then refused and was sentenced to be burned at the stake.
