Is the following sentence a statement: This sentence is false or ?2^2 = 4. Justify your answer.

What will be an ideal response?

The sentence is not a statement because it is neither true nor false. In order for it to be true, at least one of its components must be true. But “This sentence is false” is neither true nor false, and “?2^2 = 4” is false because the left-hand side of the equal sign is ?4 and the right-hand side is 4. On the other hand, in order for the sentence to be false, both of its components must be false and “This sentence is false” is neither true nor false.
