Advantages: widely available; can be made from fast growing plants and waste materials; can be converted to biofuels; eases some strain on petroleum based fuels.Disadvantages: produces net CO2 emissions if it is used faster than it can be replaced; soil erosion and habitat destruction can result if large areas of land are cleared; less biomass is available for fertilizers; open fires and inefficient stoves can have harmful human health effects; may compete with food sources.
