It is recommended that all older adults have an annual physical examination. The exam for the oldest-old adult should include the same categories as in middle adulthood, as well as screening for mood, cognition, and ability to perform ADLs. Height and weight are measured to screen for osteoporosis, chronic illness, diet, and appetite. Gait and balance are assessed for functional status such as ability to perform ADLs and safety. At this time, a Pap test is not generally recommended for women past 65 years old but the American Cancer Society recommends it be continued to age 70 . The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends screening for colorectal cancer beginning at age 50 years and continuing until age 75 years.
