Helpees often develop mistrust and reluctance to engage in the helping process when they perceive the helper is insensitive to their unique cultural and personal experiences. Further, it is important for helpers be aware of how various groups experience marginalization within the dominant culture and to be careful not to replicate experiences of marginalization within the helping relationship.
