New York, London, and Tokyo are examples of global cities which are characterized by being: 1) The key locations for leading industries and marketplaces and the high-level management and specialized services they require; 2) The centers of the production and creation of innovative, cutting-edge financial services; 3) The homes of new financial, legal, and accountancy products; 4) The settings from which businesses and organizations exercise global command and control. Global cities are also home to major problems including being the targets of terrorism, destinations for undocumented immigrants, and the site of global health problems. Local governments often lack the resources to address the problems that can occur including lack of economic resources, violence, health risks. (Students might also draw from environmental section to include the global environmental problems of the global city.
