When the media latches on to one outrageous case such as that of Baby Doe, public outrage ensues. However, media frenzies don’t produce progress. Reliable and comprehensive data are critical to public education and advocacy initiatives. CDR teams can aid in this process by reporting data to the media, and the media can then portray a more accurate picture of child maltreatment deaths overall, including what is being done to improve outcomes and prevention.
