Define the third space. Discuss how the third space is understood in the context of relational theory.

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: The third space is the interactional field created when the subjectivities of the therapist and the patient come together; a transitional space that allows the client to practice new ways of interacting with another. Certain forms of disclosure by the therapist are a way to create thirdness. This conceptualization of thirdness rests on the assumption that transference and countertransference must be resolved in relation to each other.
