Discuss the differences between the narcissistic abuser and the avoidant abuser in terms of their demeanor toward their victims
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: The narcissist tends to be on a continuum of assertive to oppressive toward their victims. They are very self-centered and insensitive to the needs of their victim. They are very dominant, and cannot handle having that dominance threatened. The insecurities they attempt to hide is what compels them to be abusive. The avoidant abuser is on a continuum of dependent to paranoid. Rather than being dominant and demanding their victim's subservience, the avoidant abuser lives in fear that their victim will abandon them. It is this fear that compels their abusive behavior.
