Describe SMTP.

What will be an ideal response?

The Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is responsible for routing electronic mail on the Internet using TCP and IP. The process usually requires connecting to a remote computer and transferring the e-mail message, but due to problems with the network or a remote computer, messages can be temporarily undeliverable. The electronic mail server will try to deliver any messages by periodically trying to contact the remote destination. When the remote computer becomes available, the message is delivered using SMTP.
