What was Richard Nixon's policy toward communism?

What will be an ideal response?

Answers will vary. Richard Nixon pursued major shift in international politics, the policy of de?tente. From reconsidering the Vietnam War to opening relations with communist China, Nixon's policy was softer toward communist blocs than any of his postwar predescessors. He also sought to reengage the United States in Europe by bridging the East-West divide. By the end of the 1960s, not only Nixon but also his Soviet counterpart Leonid Brezhnev and many politicians in western Europe accepted the new balance of power: military escalation was unlikely. As a result, the 1972 Antiballistic Missile Treaty put a limit on the development of nuclear weapons and military spending. The détente lasted until the presidency of Ronald Reagan.
