How does the ancestral locomotor system of tetrapods interfere with respiration?

What will be an ideal response?

The trunk muscles that produce the lateral bending that is characteristic of the locomotion of basal tetrapods are also used to compress the rib cage during exhalation. Lateral bending is produced by contracting the muscles on only one side of the body, whereas exhalation requires simultaneous contraction of the trunk muscles on both sides of the body.
