Why does endemic terror thrive in Africa?
What will be an ideal response?
• The borders in much of sub-Saharan Africa and the modern Middle East were drawn in Europe without regard for tribal areas, ethnicity, or religion. This resulted in artificial separations of traditional political associations and cultures. In other instances, rival groups or families were lumped into a single new country despite the fact that they had no common history. Politics in these states often became violent as factions clashed for control of governments. Rulers were notoriously corrupt and/or brutally repressive.
Crime flourished, and human rights vanished. Iron-handed rule was one of the few methods that could hold these countries together. Arbitrary arrests, summary executions, and torture allowed the dominant groups to rule over their enemies. Such condition can produce endemic terrorism, which has occurred in the cases of three jihadist groups espousing global rhetoric and engaging in regional violence.
