What are the responsibilities of the lieutenant governor?

What will be an ideal response?

The "governor-in-waiting" has few formal duties, but must be ready to assume the governor's office (should the governor resign, retire early, die, become disabled, be impeached, or leaves the state). The LG is technically in charge when the governor is not present in the state of California. The LG sits as a voting member on several state regulatory and advisory boards, such as the California State University Board of Trustees.
