Answers will vary. The complex consisted of a madrasa or theological college devoted to the teaching of orthodox Sunni Islamic law. The complex was so large that it housed four such colleges for the study of the four major schools of Islamic law; and also a mosque, mausoleum, orphanage, hospital and shops and baths.
