What is the difference between the term stepfamily and blended family?

What will be an ideal response?

Stepfamily originally meant "orphan." Blended family is a more correct description of his, hers, and ours. Blended family may also be misleading as it implies smoothness and seamlessness. The remarried family is more like a patchwork quilt with porous boundaries.
