While peer editing workshops can be exceptional tools for developing metacognitive awareness of writing practices, care should be paid to anticipate problems arising from logistics (e.g., do students swap papers or work in larger groups?), motivation (e.g., unwillingness to read another's work carefully), and epistemology (e.g., what does it mean to know about someone's writing). Without guidance, students should not be expected to support one another's writing effectively. Instead, teachers should plan to teach children how to support peer writing beyond finding fault.
