The control coat is used to control the orientation of the metallic flakes first in the blend area and then over the entire surface being painted. The first layer of the control coat is applied to the blend area only and in some cases followed up with a coating over the entire sprayed area using an increased gun distance, gun speed and a technique that will result in a less than wet coat of material.
