What is meant by natural selection?

What will be an ideal response?

Natural selection means that the phenotypes in the population that are best able to secure limited resources will be the ones best able to survive and reproduce. Those that are less suited to the environment will neither reproduce nor survive as well. Populations will tend toward phenotypes that are best suited for that particular environment.
