In an essay, discuss the environmental risks associated with hydraulic fracturing (fracking).
What will be an ideal response?
Fracking is a new way in which natural gas can be extracted from deep layers of shale. Critics of fracking point to a host of potential environmental problems. These include pollution of local groundwater supplies, the generation of earthquakes because of the movement of deep layers of rock and the tremendous amount of water which is needed to engage in the process of hydraulic fracking.
