into consideration when determining an appropriate punishment. He also suggested that
lesser punishments can be equally, if not more effective than extreme and harsh
punishments. His most significant contribution was his book “An Introduction to the
Principles of Morals and Legislation.” Bentham also developed the Panopticon.
