What is intelligence, and how is it measured? What are some criticisms of IQ tests?

What will be an ideal response?

Although the definition of intelligence has been arguably based on cultural bias, it is referred to as the ability to reason, understand, and profit from experience. It is often measured through standardized testing, and the primary measurement is in the form of the intelligence quotient (IQ). Originally designed to measure children's intelligence, the IQ score was determined by taking the mental age (determined by performance on the test) and dividing it by the child's chronological age, then multiplying the dividend by 100. Although the scoring is different now, to include how adults are also measured on an adult version of the test, the base score is till 100.
There are several criticisms of IQ tests: 1. They test only academic performance and relate to higher economic levels. 2. They overemphasize verbal ability, education, and Western culture. 3. Other forms of intelligence, such as practical intelligence, cannot be determined in these IQ tests but are arguably greater predictors of intelligence.
