Explain the assumed population of xy pairs in the regression model.
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: In the regression model, we assume a fixed number of levels of the predictor variable X. For each level of x this is a conditional distribution of y values. The means of these conditional distributions change linearly with X. We call these means the expected values of y, and denote them as E(y|x). We also assume that the standard deviations of the conditional distributions are all the same. When this is true we say that the conditional distributions are homoscedastic.
