What are the origins of the cold war?

What will be an ideal response?

The wartime alliance of the Soviet Union with the Western allies was a temporary measure of necessity to fight off the greater immediate threat of Hitler. Although the USSR had an avowed policy of communism and the worldwide revolution that would overthrow capitalism, it allied with the capitalist Western nations to defeat Hitler, who himself had embraced fascism and totalitarianism with a stated goal of seizing Russia under the auspices of Lebensraum. Toward the end of the war, however, as Stalin began to make demands of the Western allies, it was clear that he was returning to a policy of building communism, and this time, with the demand for a buffer zone within eastern Europe. What led to the beginnings of the cold war was the fundamental incompatibility of these two political ideologies that could no longer be ignored with the threat of Hitler removed.
