Discuss the stability of cohabiting relationships in the United States.
What will be an ideal response?
In general, cohabiting couples in the United States tend to be less satisfied, show higher rates of intimate violence, and have less stable relationships than married couples. About one third of cohabiting relationships in the United States dissolve in 3 years. Much of the research with U.S. samples suggests that cohabiting couples who go on to marry tend to have unhappier marriages with a greater likelihood of divorce than couples who did not live together before marriage.
