Discuss what is appropriate dress and demeanor for officers who go to court to testify about cases they investigated
What will be an ideal response?
Officers should appear in court looking and acting professional. Whether they wear uniforms or business suits, clothing should be clean and pressed. Good grooming standards should always be apparent. Gaudy clothing and jewelry should be avoided. So should loud talking, "horse play," and juvenile behavior.
If officers come in contact with jurors in the courthouse, the officers need to politely refuse to answer questions. A brief explanation that the only evidence that jurors are allowed to consider must come from the witness stand may be in order.
